A Randomised Controlled Trial for Patient Perception Regarding Dentures Made from Two Different Techniques

Abstract


Background:  Patient perception is very crucial for overall success of dentures as the comfort of patients is the ultimate goal of any treatment. The two techniques evaluated in this study mainly differs in terms of number of appointment and ease of doing the treatment. Aim of this study is to evaluate the patient satisfaction with modified and conventional removable complete dentures. Materials and Methods: A pilot randomized clinical trial with 40 edentulous patients divided in 2 groups of conventional method and the other of modified technique that eliminates the step of functional impressions. Satisfaction was evaluated at 3 and 6 months using a Numerical Rating Scale(VAS). Comparison was made using ANOVA deliberating p<0.05 as significant.  Result: We found no significant variations for satisfaction and the quality of the prosthesis between the two methods.  Conclusion: The alternate method of modified technique is prosthesis is a practical, more cost effective similar to conventional method.
