Abstract

Background:  Schwannoma, also known as neurilemoma, neuroma,  neurinoma or Schwann cell tumor is a rare benign neural tumor that arises from the Schwann cells of the peripheral, cranial or autonomic nerves. These tumors can arise anywhere in the body but with greater predilection to the head and neck region. According to literature, only a few of them have occurred in the oral cavity. These lesions have little or no potential for malignant transformation or recurrence. In this case report we present a 65 year old female patient with schwannoma in the floor of the mouth along with its management.

Keywords: Antoni bodies, Schwann cells, Benign tumor, Neuroma.
