Abstract

Background:  Impaction of maxillary permanent central incisor is not a frequently reported case in dental practice, but its treatment is challenging because of its importance in facial esthetics. Impacted incisor with dilaceration refers to a condition characterized by an angulation between crown and root causing non eruption of the incisor. Dilaceration can occur anywhere involving the apex of the root-resulting in disruption of the normal axial relationship of the tooth. The treatment options include either surgical removal of the impacted tooth or multidisciplinary approach involving surgical and orthodontic management. This paper describes the successful alignment of a horizontally impacted maxillary left central incisor positioned high in the vestibule, in a 15 year old male patient with combined approach of surgical exposure and spontaneous orthodontic traction force.

Keywords: Impacted central incisors, dilacerated root, surgical exposure, orthodontic traction.
