Abstract

Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate anchorage control using mini-screws as compared to an Essix retainer in the treatment of Class II malocclusion to distalize the maxillary molars using the Carriere motion appliance (CMA) with Finite Element Method Analysis. Materials and Methods: A cone-beam computed tomography of a patient having Angle’s Class II malocclusion was obtained and simulated for making the digital models using Solidworks 2023 software. Boundary conditions and material properties were assigned to the constructed 3D models. Results: The mandibular anchorage loss in the treatment of Class II malocclusion with CMA and Essix retainer was more than with mini-screw. Conclusion: Overall, the study highlights the effectiveness of the CMA in achieving distalization while minimizing anchorage loss, emphasizing the importance of anchorage control methods in orthodontic treatment planning.
