Abstract

Background:  Tooth being a hard tissue can be histologically examined either by ground section or decalcification. Histological sections, which need to be examined for any length of time or to be stored must be mounted under a cover-slip. There is various type of mounting agent available commercially with their own advantages and disadvantages. Out of all the available mounting media, DPX is most commonly used. However, handling of DPX requires a dispenser and it also requires a significant period of time to set. Cyanoacrylate glue, which is widely available for many years for general household purposes and are very easy to handle and require very less time to set. Very few studies have been done to compare the efficacy of cyanoacrylate and DPX as mounting media for ground sections. The aim of our study was to evaluate the efficacy of cyanoacrylate adhesive (Fevikwik™) as a mounting medium for ground sections of teeth and to compare these ground sections with those mounted with DPX.
