Aim: To evaluate the rate of different decalcifying agents and also their effect on staining characteristics on dental hard tissues. Materials and methods: 50 freshly extracted non-carious teeth were taken, fixed in 10 % formalin for 48 hours and were kept for decalcification in three different solutions and were grouped accordingly. Group A: 5 % HNO3, Group B: 10 % HNO3, Group C: 10 % HNO3 and 10 % formalin was used. Endpoint decalcification was evaluated using a radiographic method, and teeth were routinely processed and stained with Haematoxylin and Eosin stain. Different parameters were used to assess the decalcification process and were graded. Results: Overall, the solution containing 5% HNO3 scored the highest proving to be advantageous among the three groups.
