Abstract

Background:  The aim of this study was to assess the awareness of periodontal disease, its influence on general health, and attitude towards periodontal disease management among Post Graduate medical practitioners in Gujarat state.  Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 260 Post Graduate medical practitioners from different specialties in Gujarat state were included. A self-administered questionnaire was prepared based on knowledge, attitude, and practice surveys to assess the awareness of periodontal disease and its management.  Results: Overall 62% of Post Graduate Medical Practitioners were aware about various periodontal diseases. 51% Post Graduate Medical Practitioners believed that there is a influence of systemic health on disease. 86% believed that LASERs are used in the treatment of periodontal disease. Conclusion: It is found that Post Graduate medical practitioners in Gujarat had fair amount of knowledge about periodontal disease and its management.
