Abstract

Background:  Hereditary Gingival Fibromatosis (HGF) is a rare, benign, genetically inherited gingival condition that presents as localized or generalized fibrotic enlargement of gingiva. It can occur both as an isolated entity as well as a part of a multisystem disorder. It is now reported to be due to defect in the Son of Sevenless-1 gene on chromosome 2p21-p22. Clinically it is characterized by firm, nodular, pale pink, stippled gingiva covering almost the whole teeth. The treatment plan is not definite including surgical intervention with a good follow up and maintenance. This paper presents a case report of a patient suffering from Hereditary Gingival Fibromatosis and highlights the various diagnostic criteria along with its treatment.
