Background: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is an increasingly common form of sleep related breathing disorder. The condition is characterized by frequent episodes of apnea and hypopnea leading to fall in oxygen saturation. OSA manifests as sound persistent snoring, excessive day time sleepiness and witnessed pauses in breathing, irritability and poor concentration. Diagnosis is based on history, clinical presentation and polysomnography. Untreated cases may lead to cardiovascular and neurocognitive problems along with metabolic effects like insulin resistance. Management includes a comprehensive approach towards the predisposing factors involved and the anatomical or physiological reasons involved in particular patient. This article reviews the diagnosis, clinical features and management of obstructive sleep apnea from the simplest form of treatments to the complex surgeries.
