Background: The present study was aimed to identify and measure variations in the presence and extent of the anterior loop of the inferior alveolar nerve using CBCT. 46 CBCT scan images of subjects aged between 21-56 years were randomly selected from the database of zonal dental hospital, and evaluated for the presence of anterior loop using imaging software. The prevalence of anterior loop was found to be 65.2% and the longest loop length recorded was 5.7 mm. anterior loop should be evaluated on case-by-case basis using CBCT during pre-surgical treatment planning involving anterior implant placement and no fixed distance mesial to the mental foramen should be considered safe.
Keywords: Anterior nerve loop; CBCT; prevalence; inferior alveolar nerve.
