Background: To evaluate maxillofacial trauma patients using multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) with multiplanar reformation and 3D imaging. Materials and Methods: Twenty-five patients who sustained multiple maxillofacial fractures were randomly selected for this study, irrespective of age and sex. In all these cases, MDCT and 3D computed tomography were taken and evaluated for diagnosis and better treatment plans. Results: The results of this study suggest that the posterior extension of LeFort fractures, orbital trauma, especially undisplaced fractures of lateral, medial and inferior orbital walls, and orbital muscle and fat entrapment were clearly visualized on the MDCT scan. The displacement and communication of the zygomatic complex are clearly appreciated in dimensional imaging of the MDCT scan. Conclusion: During the course of the study, the MDCT was found to be standard in radiological investigations including assessment of, accuracy, and extension of fracture in maxillofacial trauma, whereas conventional radiographs have limitations in accuracy and extension of fracture. They seem to become superior radiological investigations for diagnosis and better treatment outcomes.
